What You Will Learn:

  • How light interacts with objects to create highlights, midtones, and shadows
  • How to apply textures to your paintings
  • Ideas on how to include textures in various scenes

Supplies You’ll Need:

  • Watercolor paper
  • Watercolor brush (one size 6 or 8 round brush)
  • Watercolor paints (pans or tubes)
  • Mixing tray/palette
  • Two jars of water
  • Cloth or paper towels (optional)
  • Materials for the textures: salt, plastic wrap, spray bottle, wax-based white colored pencil

Loved this class. Doing the scale study and then charting the study on a drawing made perfect sense. Could then compare the midtones, highlights, etc from the study for reference, to the drawing. A very helpful class.

Miranda was clear, concise, and pointed out a few ways to approach making our value scales and shading a sphere. I appreciated the numbering on the sphere to help us stay on track with the values used.
