Course Description:

Do you struggle with finding one reason why you should sit down and create art? Do you feel guilty when you finally set aside time to make something? Society has taught us that art is irresponsible, unproductive, and even childish. As adults, we believe we can’t afford the time, money, or effort it takes to be creative. But we can.

With this course, I hope to ignite that artistic spark and help you get unstuck from your creative rut. We’ll discuss why it’s important to make time for your creative passions. Then, we’ll look at six common obstacles artists face and how to overcome them. Finally, I’ll walk you through exercises to get those creative juices flowing.

Allow yourself to be creative. You deserve it!

What You Will Learn:

  • Why art can be beneficial for everyone
  • 6 obstacles artists face and solutions to overcome them
  • 4 exercises to encourage creativity

Supplies You’ll Need:

Great Advice for Everybody

I liked everything from the realistic true life problems to the practical and down to earth solutions, to the wise words of comfort and encouragement that Shelby delivers in this course. She knows what she's talking about and her empathetic, giving manner allows you to start thinking of yourself in a more positive light. Even the exercises are fun! Everybody needs this Great Advice!

l feel inspired!

I've used every excuse described to keep from trying to do art! I feel I now have permission to make awful art full of mistakes and just move on to the next effort. I don't have to be this perfectionist that I am. I especially liked the ideas for finding what I like in others' art as an inspiration!

Art is for everyone!

I loved seeing how everyone's art is valued in this community. I definitely felt better because I fall in the no skill category and I am happy that Shelby wants to see everyone succeed.

Everybody needs to know this!

Such a fun course that tackles the big WHY behind why we really do art - and how important it is to be creative. Being creative and making art is never a waste of time! Thanks for the excellent pep-talk, Shelby! And for slaying all of my reasons not to do art. Good reminder to do things that keep me "alive above the shoulders", as a teacher of mine used to say!

Just do it

Realized how much time I waste, particularly on social media.

great reminder of the benefits of art

I appreciated the reminder that art does not have to be shared with anyone and it can be beneficial to health. The exercise to find additional time in the week by identifying areas of time waste was especially helpful.
