One of the biggest challenges in figure drawing is avoiding flat and lifeless representations.

This class is designed to help you overcome the struggle by introducing techniques that add volume and realism to your figures.

Learn how contour lines, line weight, and light can transform your drawings from two-dimensional sketches into dynamic, three-dimensional forms.

What You Will Learn:

  • Contour Lines: Understand and apply contour lines that follow the path of the shape to add depth and mass.
  • Line Weight Variation: Utilize different line thicknesses to emphasize weight and focal points within your drawings.
  • Light and Shadow: Practice shading techniques to carve out shapes and highlight forms, enhancing the illusion of volume.
  • Dynamic Figure Drawing: Practice drawing figures with contours, varied line weights, and effective shading

Supplies You'll Need:

  • Sketchbook or Drawing Paper
  • Pencils: A range of HB to 6B pencils for varying shades and textures
  • Erasers: Kneaded eraser and vinyl eraser for corrections and highlights
  • Blending Tools: Blending stumps or tortillons for smooth shading
  • Sharpener: To maintain pencil points for detailed work
  • Brush Pen (optional, for varied line weights)

This was a wonderful drawing class about adding shape and form, how to make your image appear more 3 dimensional. Shelby really broke it down, We had lots of questions and she answered them all, along with changing methods on the fly to help us more easily understand the concepts. People learn in so many different ways and I love that she goes with it. If one way doesn't work she's always breaking it down so that whichever way you learn you end up understanding it.
