Guest Instructor Rob Kelsey will guide you through foundational techniques to create beautiful, functional booklets that excite and inspire. The course covers several different book types, as well as easy binding techniques that you can do with a needle and thread. By the end of the session, you'll have a few finished examples of small booklets and a stronger understanding of the foundations of this historical skill.

About Instructor

Rob is a Chicago-based art maker, whose practice spans many media, not just illustration. But whether he’s working on a sculpture, mask, painting, or game, it all begins with pen on paper. After graduating from DePaul in 2015 with a degree in Animation for Games, he began expanding his horizons into book arts, printmaking, and more. Whatever media he’s working in, his work is unified by a sense of the macabre, an emphasis on interaction, and the belief that the physical presence of a piece is vital to its essence.

Really good overview of 4(+) bookbinding methods and the tools used. I really liked that he explained his reasons for choosing the equipment and materials he uses, as well as tips on what to look for when we are choosing our own tools and materials.
