Drawing Bootcamp: Go From Stick Figures to Confident, Competent Artist

View Class details
Shelby Abrahamsen (Foxsy)

Class Description:

Have you ever felt a longing to express yourself artistically, only to be met with the fear that you can't draw? Perhaps you've picked up a pencil, stared at a blank sheet of paper, and felt completely overwhelmed, anxious, or even defeated. You're not alone. Many aspiring artists struggle with these feelings, grappling with self-doubt and the fear of failure.

Learning to draw can often feel like climbing a mountain; the path seems steep, the peak unreachable, and every attempt feels more daunting than the last. It’s easy to think that drawing is a talent reserved for the "gifted" few, leaving you to wonder if you’ll ever be able to bring your ideas and imagination to life on paper. The good news? Drawing is a skill that can be learned, and you can begin right here at Drawing Bootcamp!

What You Will Learn:

  • The building blocks of drawing—understand how simple shapes form the foundation for more complex creations.
  • Techniques for one-point and two-point perspectives that make your artwork pop with depth and realism.
  • Effective sketching practices, including how to use a sketchbook as your personal playground for inspiration and idea generation.
  • The art of expressing emotions and ideas through shapes, exploring both geometric and organic forms to expand your artistic toolkit.
  • Principles of composition, line quality, and texture that will elevate the visual impact of your work.
  • The magic of storytelling in art—learn to convey concepts and feelings through your drawings while developing your own unique voice as an artist.

Supplies You'll Need:

  • Sketchbook or drawing paper
  • Pencils (HB2 and soft pencils for shading)
  • Erasers (both kneaded and regular)

We're getting better every day

Foxsy is an art education platform with on-demand creative courses. It’s designed so you can explore and grow your artistic skills.

The courses contain in-depth lessons and step-by-step projects to fuel your creativity and give you the skills to create your own amazing art.

Here at Foxsy, we are working to build a platform where you can have everything you need to give your creativity everything it needs to thrive.

Right now, we are working on building the best collection of online courses around, so you have everything you need to learn the new skills you've been putting off (or help you dust off some old skills).

We're doing this by working with online creators who have been where you are. Our instructors have all decided to make their creativity a focus of their lives. To devote themselves to exploring their creativity and helping others do the same, and many of them are self-taught. Basically, they get it and can help you no matter where you are.

More than that though, we want to build a space where you feel like your creativity matters. We want to give you a community where you can work to embrace your creativity and give it space in your life.

Eventually, we want to change the world though.

That's a BIG want though isn't it? Well, it's the truth. We're working to make Foxsy a place where creativity thrives not only on an individual level but also a place that helps make the world a more creative place in general.

We want to support local art projects all around the globe, expand access to art education, and show as many people as possible that no matter what they've been told, your creativity matters and should be celebrated.

If this sounds like a world, you'd like to see, sign up and help us build something amazing.

We currently have several courses on watercoloring, lettering, and creative journaling. As we grow our course library month by month, we will continue to expand the range of subjects as well.

Foxsy is adding new classes all the time to make sure you have access to a constantly growing pool of subjects and projects.

Foxsy is a paid membership platform, so you need to sign up for one of our membership plans to access everything Foxsy has to offer.

A Lifetime Membership is a one-time fee that gives you access to Foxsy for life!

No recurring payments, nothing, as long as Foxsy exists you’ll have access to everything on the platform.

Once you are a Foxsy member, you will have access to the entire library of courses, as well as any classes added to the library during your membership.

If you get a membership and decide that Foxsy just isn’t for you, then no worries!

We have a 30-day money-back guarantee. Just shoot us a message and we’ll get your refund processed right away!

Unfortunately, no. When you cancel your membership, you will lose access to any courses you have enrolled in at the end of your membership period.

For example, if you have a yearly membership that renews on November 1st and cancel your membership on October 10th, you will lose access to all of the courses on Foxsy on November 1st.

If you have any questions, please feel free to message us at [email protected].

Great primer before the really hard stuff

This was another fabulous class here at Foxsy. 1 pt and 2 pt perspectives, and crazy shading skills! I was blown away! I will be practicing, and already implementing into my art. Thanks, Shelby!

An amazing three days! Thank you so much for offering Bootcamp and the great surprises that came with it. I'm ready to draw! (But I am working at the polls for early voting for the next 2 weeks, so I'll have to wait. Everybody in the US of A, don't forget to vote!)

Bootcamp was delightful! In recent years, I've convinced myself that I struggle to draw anything substantial. I reevaluated what 'substantial' meant, to me: Perfection. In just 3 days, I have learned to enjoy the process and progress. 🙂

I can't say enough about the drawing boot camp. Just from 3 days, I can already tell my drawing has improved. It covers everything from shading to composition to line weight. Really, everything you need to know to learn to draw both in pencil and ink.

Live Class Review

I thought it was great--it was a good use of my time and I feel like I learned a good bit. The schedule helped keep everything on track and moving forward. I wondered if it would be too basic, but I learned something in each section. The activities were fun and engaging. Shelby and later, Rob did a great job of leading our group through practice sessions where we could ask questions and comment. I would recommend this Drawing Bootcamp to anyone--artist or not.

Live Class Review

Foxsy's live classes demonstrate much more than "How to's." They take the viewer through thought processes in real time with the unexpected or changes that pop up. The live chat enables the viewer to interact by asking questions, giving information, or letting Shelby know when more clarification is needed. It's fun to listen to her anecdotes and interaction with Jon.
