Class Description:

How do you draw something that's white with a pencil? In this 30-minute class, we'll learn to describe snow using values, the soft shadows and gentle shapes around it that let the white of the paper read as fresh snowfall.
Using soft pencils, a blending stump, and a kneaded eraser, we'll build up shading, smooth it out and lift out highlights to create cozy snowy scenes that actually look like snow. It's a simple set of tools with a big payoff for all your winter drawings.

What You Will Learn:

  • How to use values to describe snow
  • How to let the paper become your whites
  • How to blend smooth, soft shadows with a blending stump
  • How to lift highlights with a kneaded eraser
  • How to draw a simple snowy scene that reads as snow
