Melissa, this is CRACKING me UP.
I think it’s a great idea to discuss AI and how it fits into the world of art. Like it or not, that Pandora’s Box has been opened, and there’s no undoing it. AI is here and it’s not leaving anytime soon.
Perhaps I’ll start a forum on that subject in particular. I think we as a community can share our thoughts and have respectful discourse!

December 19, 2025 at 5:56 pm in reply to: Best beginner-friendly lettering tools? That’s a super sensible policy on art supplies. They can get pricy and add up, so taking this approach is smart. I have the great luck of being across the street from a used art/craft supply shop and I’m always up in there looking for good deals—and finding them! Nothing better than new art supplies while spending little money

December 18, 2025 at 5:35 pm in reply to: Share your latest lettering project! This is awesome practice! I, too, enjoy lettering while watching TV and just grabbing random words and phrases out of the air to put to paper. The sloping problem gets me as well! That’s why I always prefer dot grid or square grid notebooks for this type of thing. It really helps keep me on the straight and narrow.

December 18, 2025 at 5:32 pm in reply to: Best beginner-friendly lettering tools?Good suggestions all around! Microns are top-tier drawing/fine line pens, I love them to bits. I’m also a fan of Papermate Flairs.
If you want another idea for a monoline pen that absolutely rules, look for Posca pens. They’re opaque acrylic pens/markers that lay down color beautifully.

Ahhh! I also hate an incomplete progress bar! I’ll make sure Jon sees this so he can tinker with the settings and get this fixed. Thanks, Glenda!

Glad to hear that! I am a big fan of challenges like that, but I’m not always the best at finishing what I start

December 18, 2025 at 5:23 pm in reply to: What’s your favorite lettering style and why?I felt the same way about serifs for a long time. I just didn’t want to get all caught up in those extra strokes! Eventually what helped me understand serifs and have fun with them was Italic, or Flat Nib calligraphy. I linked the class below!
