Today’s study: the mangrove tree!

You can see two versions below. One is when I finished the 50 min Sketch Session. The second has another 20-30 min of colored pencil work.

This one was challenging, but very fun. What a tangle!

Trying to draw on this HP Premium paper to see how it feels. Feels good! I started with pencil lines, then inked with a Tombow Fudenosuke. I filled in the background with a Pentel Pocket Brush Pen.

These are so satisfying to look at! I love the color choices, and the rounded corners are excellent.

That’s a super sensible policy on art supplies. They can get pricy and add up, so taking this approach is smart. I have the great luck of being across the street from a used art/craft supply shop and I’m always up in there looking for good deals—and finding them! Nothing better than new art supplies while spending little money

This is awesome practice! I, too, enjoy lettering while watching TV and just grabbing random words and phrases out of the air to put to paper. The sloping problem gets me as well! That’s why I always prefer dot grid or square grid notebooks for this type of thing. It really helps keep me on the straight and narrow.

Good suggestions all around! Microns are top-tier drawing/fine line pens, I love them to bits. I’m also a fan of Papermate Flairs.

If you want another idea for a monoline pen that absolutely rules, look for Posca pens. They’re opaque acrylic pens/markers that lay down color beautifully.

I felt the same way about serifs for a long time. I just didn’t want to get all caught up in those extra strokes! Eventually what helped me understand serifs and have fun with them was Italic, or Flat Nib calligraphy. I linked the class below!
