AdministratorMarch 3, 2026 at 4:11 pm in reply to: Abstract Watercolor and mixed mediaColors: amazing. Love it.
Watercolor technique: gorgeous, fun, great movement.
Mark-making: Love that you are experimenting with different tools and creating clusters of shapes, lines, dots, etc.
Balance: It’s pretty good as is, but I think it could be interesting to see some marks outside of the watercolor shape, especially in the upper left quadrant.I’m loving the abstract work. It’s so relaxing and feels like witchcraft when it all comes together.

I agree that it’s not quite there yet in terms of the contrast, but you’ve still created a very believable and 3D-feeling rock feature. You also nailed the color mixing! This grey is spot on to the reference photo you provided.

I love the expressiveness of your lines!

This is very striking! I love that it’s on black paper, it amplifies the drama. Great use of yellow and white to make that moon pop off the page!

Something that you might want to try next time is painting the first layer totally in white. That will make the yellow pop more strongly against the black. Layering a light color on a dark base can be tricky, but I think you did splendid. Oh, something else I’ve seen people do (never tried myself) is mixing fabric softener into acrylics. Apparently this makes the paint more flexible and last longer on something as flexible as fabric.
