January 31, 2026 at 4:55 pm in reply to: How many hours on average do you spend on your phone/device each day?My phone is in that 2-3 range as well, and as expected almost exclusively games.
If you looked at the timing, it’s almost exclusively around meal time. To be vague, I have multiple health issues that make it very difficult to eat enough to stay healthy, so distracted eating is recommended by my medical team, and silly games help with that. My primary goal I think is that I’m really only on my phone during mealtimes.
My social media time on my laptop is higher. I keep my feeds curated and prefer social media where you reach the ‘end’ of updates. So it just took me maybe 6 minutes to look at everything from the last 24 hours on my Instagram. Tumblr is my favorite, and I can usually review it in under 20 minutes each day unless there is an event. I wish Facebook would let me curate things better, because that is where my family posts and they are all over the continent, so I want to keep up with everything without the garbage. I also aggressively mute on Discord, but I don’t mind that one as I live alone and that is where I talk to friends.
Discord and my email are the only ones that are open all the time and have any sort of notification. Once I find a job, I’ll turn off most email notifications (and close Discord during work), but for now the email notifications are on so I can be prepared for job stuff.

January 29, 2026 at 2:25 pm in reply to: Collaborative Collages: Making New Art with Old ImagesHere are mine! My acrylic black and white paint were Artist’s Loft, my paint pens are Betem (would not recommend), and outlines in a Micron fineliner. The ‘sky’ on the top one is a mix of Crayola, RoseArt and Caliber washable markers smudged with a cloth.
The top on is newsprint from a German newpaper according to the back, no idea where I got it. The sailboat is from an old greeting card, the lighthouse is glossy and from a travel advertisement, the bridge is from an old Nat Geo magazine I think, and the very dapper cat is on printer paper from a newsletter from my local animal shelter. It was fun to work with the different paper textures!
I like all of them except the bridge one. That creature suffered from poor planning from the first stroke! But that’s how we learn 😀

Honestly, if it’s kept someplace where people can avoid and/or block it, I don’t care either way.
But much like the decision fatigue mentioned in Saturday’s class, the constant exposure to politics can be debilitating and can lead to burnout and apathy. There are very few places now where a person can take a step away and rest (which is healthy and lets people be strong enough to fight another day). And yes, it is a privilege to be able to rest. And that means that giving people a space to rest is a political action.

Blank Page Syndrome is so hard! I still do so many of my doodles for my
junk journals on scrap paper and then cut and paste instead of doodling
directly in sketchbook. It has some practical reasons too, but I don’t
want to mess up!I’ve grown fond of tiny art on scraps of paper when I’ve feeling stuck. That way if I hate, I can shove it in the recycling bin and pretend it never happened. But if I do like it, then I made random art!

</div>What type of art do you like to do?
I hope you can find something that works for you!

Finished my doodles from Masha’s class! I added from the Christmas lights down to fill out the page. I always do 2 copies so I can color one set!
Sketchbook is an 8.5x11in, Artist’s Loft, Mixed Media, spiral-bound notebook. Outlines in a Sakura Figma Micron 05, colored pencils from a wide variety of brands.

Only kinda sketches since they are abstract, but the start of a new collection mini art. They are all done on random bits of scrap paper and colored with my army of colored pencils. The left 2 used a Sharpie and Micron fineliner for the lines, the right 4 used Betem paint markers for the lines. I still have more of the monochromatic ones to do.
… Now to convince myself I don’t need to turn the monochromatic ones into full size paintings. While they would match my Chaos in Color collections, I only have so much wall!

Oh nice! I have a set of calligraphy markers I can seem to get rid of!
-
I did good for the first few days…. and then I may have done 2 weeks worth in a day 😀

Posca pens are on my list once the ones I have dry out. I have a habit of preferring ‘cheap’ art supplies over more expensive ones, so unless I can get the expensive ones used or discounted, I tend to start cheap and upgrade if needed. The paint pens are definitely one that I want to upgrade!

Some Experience – I've tried a few things
Chaos! Art for me is an escape from the highly structured and regulated world I live and work in. My goal isn’t even really to get ‘better’, but to try things, create things, make mistakes, and break the rules 😀
Oh so many favorites, though my real favorite is the hunt to find something new while thrifting!
- Sketchbooks: I like the Michael’s house brand (Artist’s Loft) Mixed Media books in the A4 size. They do get a bit chunky with my junk journalling though!
- Pens: Figma Micron and Zebra F-301
- Markers: Crayola, Papermate Flairs, Pentel Color Pen Fine Point, Marvy Art Director 1400 (discontinued I think)
- Acrylic paint: Artist’s Loft again, it’s thick, pigmented, and dries fast which I like
- Colored pencils (probably my favorite tool): Prismacolor, Artist’s Loft, Spectracolor (discontinued), SIVO (discontinued)
- Watercolors: Crayola, Prang, and the Crayola watercolor pencils
