Another potential course idea, watercolor but with water color pencils! I have a few sets and I love them, but I also wish I knew how to use them better!

I finally got around to finishing my doodles from Masha’s Spring Doodle class! As always I did 2 copies so I could color one. Everything from the ‘Yard Sale’ sign down in the 3rd column is my own doodles just to fill the page.

Finally got my black borders added! And I have excavated my art table, so hopefully I can get through the borders on a bunch of my old work.

Here’s mine! Things I learned: I really prefer a more saturated look, so I rarely have enough water for it blend (also the Crayolas don’t blend great, the Prangs are better). I’ll add my usual black border before it goes in my sketchbook…. eventually 🙂

Prep of a spread in my sketchbook for the Winter Olympics! I’ll definitely need more than 1 spread so I think on the next one I’ll move the ‘2026’ over ‘Olympics’ in the blue, yellow, green, and red to balance it more. I’m not sure about the weight of the words, but I have enough space to thicken them later if I want.

I love the colors on this one! Blue and orange/yellow is a favorite combo of mine!

Here are mine! My acrylic black and white paint were Artist’s Loft, my paint pens are Betem (would not recommend), and outlines in a Micron fineliner. The ‘sky’ on the top one is a mix of Crayola, RoseArt and Caliber washable markers smudged with a cloth.

Blank Page Syndrome is so hard! I still do so many of my doodles for my
junk journals on scrap paper and then cut and paste instead of doodling
directly in sketchbook. It has some practical reasons too, but I don’t
want to mess up!

Sketchbook is an 8.5x11in, Artist’s Loft, Mixed Media, spiral-bound notebook. Outlines in a Sakura Figma Micron 05, colored pencils from a wide variety of brands.

Only kinda sketches since they are abstract, but the start of a new collection mini art. They are all done on random bits of scrap paper and colored with my army of colored pencils. The left 2 used a Sharpie and Micron fineliner for the lines, the right 4 used Betem paint markers for the lines. I still have more of the monochromatic ones to do.

Oh nice! I have a set of calligraphy markers I can seem to get rid of!

I did good for the first few days…. and then I may have done 2 weeks worth in a day 😀

Posca pens are on my list once the ones I have dry out. I have a habit of preferring ‘cheap’ art supplies over more expensive ones, so unless I can get the expensive ones used or discounted, I tend to start cheap and upgrade if needed. The paint pens are definitely one that I want to upgrade!

I thought about using something with a reference, and likely will for some stuff moving forward, but otherwise I accept it as part of the charm! This page and a few like it are specifically to fill out the last few pages in my junk journal. I love the bound style of sketchbook, but they are a bit more limited in how chunky they can get.…

For really fine lettering, I like the Figma Micron pens. I don’t do brush lettering or calligraphy, so for most of my lettering, I’m looking for the perfect sized tips.

A weird and small one, but an addition for the hand lettering classes to include numbers (and maybe basic punctuation). I find I sometimes struggle to make my numbers ‘match’ my letters in style.

I love the idea of prompts or challenges. I did Bloomtober this year and had a lot of fun, even if flowers are very outside my comfort zone!

I tend towards print and script, but not brush lettering. I don’t love serifs (I love the look, but hate drawing the serifs!). I love sharp, harsh angles on letters but am enjoying adding flourishes to some letters. I did like the banner class to add something special!

I shared a version of this in my intro, but I tend to hand letter while watching history shows. I letter the keywords, locations, and people. It’s a good way to experiment with color and letter shapes. I don’t love all of them all, but that’s half the fun! This one is the least bad, but I have a serious writing on a slope problem.
